Disney has officially unveiled the full trailer for its much-anticipated live-action remake of Lilo & Stitch, directed by Dean Fleischer Camp who directed Marcel the Shell With Shoes On. The film is set to hit theaters on May 23, bringing the beloved 2002 animated classic into a new CGI-enhanced dimension.

Meet the Cast and Story

The film stars Maia Kealoha as Lilo, Sydney Elizebeth Agudong as Nani, and Kaipot Dudoit as David Kawena. Alongside them, Zach Galifianakis, Billy Magnussen, Courtney B. Vance, and Hannah Waddingham join the ensemble. Fans will also be thrilled to hear the return of Chris Sanders as the voice of Stitch, alongside original cast members Tia Carrere, Amy Hill, and Jason Scott Lee.

Chris Kekaniokalani Bright, who previously worked behind the scenes on Moana 2, has penned the script, which stays faithful to the original story. The film follows Hawaiian orphan Lilo as she unknowingly adopts Experiment 626, an alien engineered for destruction, and welcomes him into her family.

A Perfect Blend of Nostalgia and Fresh Energy

The first full trailer showcases Stitch’s chaotic antics, set against the stunning Hawaiian backdrop and packed with heartwarming moments. From the Elvis soundtrack to beloved catchphrases like “Ohana means family” and “cute and fluffy,” the film perfectly captures the sci-fi-meets-Hawaii charm of the original.

Director Dean Fleischer Camp has infused the remake with the quirky, heartfelt character work that made Marcel the Shell With Shoes On a fan favorite. Early footage hints at a faithful adaptation that avoids the “uncanny valley” pitfalls seen in other CGI-live-action hybrids (pre-makeover Sonic).

Aloha, Lilo & Stitch!

The film continues Disney’s trend of bringing beloved animated characters into live-action, following the success of Mufasa: The Lion King. Fans can officially say aloha to Dean Fleischer Camp’s Lilo & Stitch when it lands in theaters on May 23. The only question now: Will it be cute and fluffy or vile, foul, and flawed? We’ll find out soon!
