Prabhsimran Singh's explosive start significantly contributed to the Punjab Kings' comfortable victory, as they successfully chased down the Lucknow Super Giants' target of 172 runs by the 17th over, with eight wickets remaining.

In an exciting IPL 2025 encounter at the Ekana Cricket Stadium on Tuesday, opener Prabhsimran Singh complemented a solid bowling effort from the Punjab Kings by delivering a spectacular fifty, ultimately leading his team to triumph over the Lucknow Super Giants.

Scorecard

Prabhsimran ignited the innings by taking on LSG's pace attack with remarkable skill. His aggressive shots included driving Shardul Thakur through covers and executing a brilliant slash over point, while Avesh Khan faced a similar fate with a stunning shot over extra cover reminiscent of a tennis forehand.

Demonstrating his prowess against LSG's spinners, Prabhsimran unleashed an array of sweeps, reverse sweeps, and scoops, accumulating boundaries with finesse.

The 24-year-old reached his fifty off just 23 balls and appeared poised to single-handedly complete the chase before being caught at the boundary in a remarkable relay catch executed by Ayush Badoni and Ravi Bishnoi.

Following Prabhsimran's explosive innings, Kings' captain Shreyas Iyer expertly guided the chase, marking his second fifty of the season. Accompanied by Impact Player Nehal Wadhera, Shreyas swiftly secured his team's second consecutive victory.

Highlights

Earlier, Shreyas' decision to bowl first proved wise, as his bowlers delivered an impressive performance.

Arshdeep initiated the early breakthroughs by skillfully finding Mitchell Marsh’s leading edge with a delivery sliding in from outside leg stump, which was expertly caught by Marco Jansen.

Lockie Ferguson followed suit, delivering an inswinger that clean-bowled Aiden Markram, further tightening the grip on LSG.

Unfortunately for Rishabh Pant, his struggles in IPL 2025 continued, as he misplayed a half-tracker from Glenn Maxwell, resulting in a dismissal for just two runs. The LSG skipper has accumulated a mere 17 runs across three innings this season.

With his top-order teammates falling early, Nicholas Pooran, the current holder of the Orange Cap, chose to adopt a cautious approach, managing only five runs from his first 11 deliveries.

However, Pooran soon awakened his aggressive instincts, striking back-to-back boundaries against Maxwell. He elevated his game against Yuzvendra Chahal, beginning with two boundaries through the off-side before lofting a six down the ground.

Against Marcus Stoinis’ shorter deliveries, Pooran capitalized on the vacant third-man area, scoring both a four and a six.

Just as a third consecutive fifty seemed within reach, Pooran was caught by Chahal, who expertly lured him into a miscue with a wide googly, which Maxwell caught at long-on, dampening the spirits of the home crowd.

LSG's recovery was spearheaded by Badoni and Abdul Samad, but Arshdeep concluded the innings with a brilliant performance, conceding only seven runs in the final over while dismissing both established batters. His remarkable effort ensured LSG remained under 180, culminating in a stellar bowling display that set the stage for a well-deserved victory.
